Canadian home sales dip in April from prior month as spring listings perk up, CREA says

The Canadian Real Estate Association says the number of homes changing hands in April fell from the previous month despite an influx of new listings hitting the market. On a month-over-month basis, CREA said home sales in April were down 1.7 per cent, while newly listed properties available for sale rose 2.8 per cent to kick off the spring market.

Trudeau's housing push in doubt as pace of construction falls

Canada’s housing starts fell for a second consecutive month as the country’s construction shortfall continues. Builders started work on an annualized 240,229 units in April, according to data released Wednesday by the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp., in line with expectations of economists in a Bloomberg survey. The 0.8 per cent monthly drop brings the six-month moving average to 238,585 units, the weakest half-year stretch for home building since last June.

Looming changes to how capital gains are taxed are prompting some families to start thinking about — or revisit — succession plans for their cottages. “A lot of succession planning starts with getting legal and accounting advice, and then you can proceed from there,” said Re/Max Canada president Christopher Alexander. “You’ll want to figure out the tax obligations, like what potential capital gains there are.”

The 2024 Pickleball season at the Quinte Curling Club began on Monday, April 29 with new pricing and schedules. Sessions are open Mondays and Wednesdays, 10 am – noon and 6 pm – 8 pm. Drop in games are $9 each, including HST. For keen players, an unlimited play option is available for $200 including HST. The season will last 19 weeks, excluding dates when the Club is unavailable.
