‘Tempered enthusiasm’: No spring real estate bloom, but buyers are slowly coming back

Canada’s spring housing market has stalled, forcing CREA to downgrade its 2026 growth forecast to just 1%. High mortgage rates, immigration cuts dampening condo demand, and global inflation have kept buyers highly cautious and price-sensitive. While the GTA and other regions are seeing modest activity from first-time buyers, prices remain flat as supply builds. Experts note Canada is halfway through a necessary market correction, with a rapid rebound unlikely this year.
